Funny thing about imagination
It is not like an equation
Or a recipe
for how to make potpourri
Curiosity seems to be the key
whether trying to create
or meditate
Impacted by whether we
believe it to truly be
If it comes from our imagination
all things are subject to speculation
or perhaps that is the orientation
by which the mind argues for devaluation
When imagination sways
from the absurd to the profane
who gets to say
which way
is the way
Maybe we need a little absurd
in order to be heard
To remain undeterred
when imagination is submerged
So busy going with the herd
and bowing only to what is affirmed
We can lose sight of what can emerge
when we imagine what can be learned
It may mean being wrong
according to those who go along
but they are the ones who withdraw
when someone new throws a ball
and asks us to explore
and open again the door
to step closer to the shore
in fact, they implore:
Please! we must restore
our veneration
for imagination
