Sharing my experiences and understandings of the Great I AM.

Be in Remembering!

Being that we are spiritual beings having a human experience and this human experience takes up our focus, it is easy to forget who we are at our core.  I find that I need to be reminded on a consistent basis that my power resonates from my connection with the Eternal.  I did not get here on my own and I am not meant to walk this path all on my own. Several months ago I was talking to a friend about this and he asked ifthere was a God-reminder app.  I said there probably was but it got me thinking that I could create my own.  So I put an entry on my calendar every day of the year at the same time every day.  I needed to be reminded that God was with me as I was walking through letting go of some old stories about myself and my experience.  So now every day at 2:30 pm there is a message that pops up on my phone: “Hey Colleen, I got you on this one. Love, God”.  The funny thing is that even though I know it is on there and it comes at the same time every day, I am still surprised by it and grateful for the reminder.  It is a simple universal message that God is with me no matter what I am experiencing or thinking at that moment in my day.  I love my date time with God but the little “text” message reminder that God is thinking of me in the middle of the day enhances our relationship and my sense of well-being and it just plain rocks!  My prayer for us today is that we be open to the reminders that God sends us in many forms that we are not alone as we go through our day.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

If you could be reminded by God about something today, or each day, what would it be?  How can you give God a hand in providing that for you? Share in the comments.

Be in Future-now!

As far as I can tell we only get one day at a time.  There must be a reason for that.  Maybe because it is exactly what we can handle.  All the planning for the future doesn’t mean much if it simply takes us out of the present.  It is important to create and imagine, to dream and to aspire to something more than we think is possible in this moment.  But if we spend all our time thinking about the future then we miss out on the creation, imagination, dreams and aspirations that are present to us in the moments of today.  A good question to ask yourself is: when I imagine this ideal future, who am I being in that future?  What qualities do I posses when I have that thing or reach that goal?  Then you know what qualities to cultivate in today.  For example, when I have my ideal job I imagine feeling a sense of living in greater alignment with my purpose, walking with an inner confidence that I am making a unique contribution, and curiosity of how the next interaction with team players will enfold. So I can take out those qualities–alignment, confidence of purpose, and curiosity and look at how I can begin to be those things in this day.  Then I am not spending the majority of my day wishing that I was somewhere else.  My prayer for us today is that we take a closer look at what our future plans will call us to be and have the courage to test them out in this day.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Entrusting!

If you are anything like me or any human being, you have a plan of some sort.  It may be large or small but you have some idea, conscious or unconscious about how you want things to go or hope things will go or an idea of how they “should” go.  I once heard if you want God to laugh, make plans.  Planning, envisioning,  and being prepared are all an essential part of being and doing in the world.  If we don’t have a plan of how to get from point A to point B, it is not likely that we are going to get there.  But if we are so focused on getting to point B and we aren’t present on the road there, we might miss out on a lot of life’s little experiences, gifts, and mysteries.  God wants us to be present in the moment as much as possible.  One way to do this is to hand over to the Great Creator all our plans and ideas of outcomes.  It takes courage to entrust our lives–our thoughts and our actions to something outside of ourselves.  Faith requires courage.  The beauty of it all is that the more time we spend getting connected to Our Great Creator, we realize that it is not outside of ourselves at all.  It is outside of our mind.  God resides in a place deep within us.  When we entrust what is deepest within us to the Great I AM that is right there within us we are in alignments and able to be present.  I in my finite wisdom and vision cannot see the whole picture.  So any plan I devise will by definition be limited, but if I am willing bit by bit to turn over my plans and ideas so that it can be aligned with the most possible experience as God sees it, then I cannot help but be surprised and in my heart overjoyed.  My prayer for us today is that we be willing to start with what we are willing to hand over and ask God to show us what is possible that we haven’t even thought of.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Well-being!

When we walk this path of life one day at a time we encounter many different kinds of experiences.  Some we label as good, some we label as bad.  Some we would like to repeat, others we hope will never happen again. All experiences invite us to walk more towards our own well-being. Even the ones we label as bad.  They draw our attention to what is not working for our soul.  This is why every negative experience, interaction, person or situation that we encounter can be turned toward the good.  Our reaction that it or they are bad is simply our reaction to something inside of ourselves that is calling to be brought to the light.  We can then hold it up to God and ask, “How do you see this?”  “What do you want me to learn from this?”  It is isn’t easy, but it is simple.  Most spiritual concepts are.  However, our ego mind looks to make it complicated and wants a rational explanation for all that happens.  Hence the question: Why do bad things happen to good people?  My question is, Who determines who the “good” people are?  If the Great Creator creates all out of love then we all have that love inside of us. Some of us just have it buried so deep beneath the story of our ego that we have lost sight of it.  But just because they lose sight of it and act “bad”, doesn’t mean that I have to jump on the bandwagon.  I think Mother Theresa said it best,

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered.  Forgive them anyway.  If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.  Be kind anyway.  If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies.  Succeed anyway.   If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.  Be honest and sincere anyway. What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.  Create anyway.  If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.  Be happy anyway. The good you do today, will often be forgotten.  Do good anyway.  Give the best you have, and it will never be enough.  Give your best anyway.  In the final analysis, it is between you and God.  It was never between you and them anyway.

My prayer for us today is that we be open to walking in our being well, no matter what we experience and asking God for the courage and the vision to do so.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Delay!

When we are an automatic pilot there is no delay in reaction.  In fact everything is just happening as it normally does, according to the programming in our brain.  This is good for breathing and heart beating, even walking and standing.  We would not want a delay in stepping forward when our legs lift to hit the ground to take the next step.  But for the elements of our thinking mind that are automated we may want to have a pause before we come from that automatic place.  We live in a world that thrives on the drama of rushing from one thing to the next.  So much so that the person who is not responding immediately is seen as an inconvenience and annoyance.  We are so used to the quick and the fast response from our phones, emails, driving, etc that we think that it is how things are supposed to be.  We are reacting instead of taking action.  But what if life was calling us to a little more reflection at times?  Usually we call that a retreat or a vacation.  But when we are in those places and experiences we bring ourselves with us so they are only as beneficial as we make them.  The true practice of being comes in our every day lives. How can I pause and choose an action based on the circumstances instead of letting my automatic reaction kick in and run away with my life?  My prayer for us today is that we be open to moments when we can pause and delay a reaction in order to invite an action and thus step into the power of our lives.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Weakness!

We know we are embracing a reality of the spirit when our mind does a double-take.  It also hits us in our gut, in a deep knowing that what we are understanding is a level of truth that transcends our current reality.  We recognize this when we let go in our minds of what we think we know and are open to what is possible on a level beyond our understanding.  This happens when we are experiencing a breakdown of what we know to be true.  Our reality and understanding of who we are and the world around us doesn’t seem to suffice. This happens to me when I am weak and broken down.  When I am at a loss and have nowhere to turn.  When my human resources do not seem to be enough. We experience these breakdowns, these facing of our weaknesses, on a daily basis.  Our ego tells us it is the end, so we try to mask our “failures” and hope that no one sees them.  However, it is only an end to the ego being allowed to believe it is all there is.  It is a beginning to connecting with your spirit’s understanding of self.  So our moments of weakness become gifts because they allow us to be open enough to let go of our outer shell and embrace thejuiciness and vitality of our selves in God that lies within us.  It is that which connects us to the whole.  My prayer for us today is that we be open to embracing the moments of “weakness” in our day as an opportunity to let our hearts and our spirits shine through our outer shell.  Make it a great one! Peace~Colleen

Be in Entrance!

There can be something magical when we stand at the doorway of the entrance to a new experience.  Think about a time when you were so excited to get started in something new-maybe a new job, school, relationship, vacation, etc.  There was probably a little fear and anxiety but if you were looking forward to it, you felt the excitement at what possible things might lie ahead.  What would it be like if we approached every day that way?  Yes, every “mundane” day where we go to work again, pay some more bills, get in the car, etc.  What if we approached something we do over and over again as the first time we are doing it?  As a trainer of new employees I train the same thing over and over again.  It is not new to me, but it is new to the people who I am training.  They have never seen this before, they are unaware of the possibilities that lie within the capacity of the system.  They are going to be wowed by the ways that it can help them in their job even though I am way past being wowed by it.  It is a continual opportunity for me to look at it through the eyes of my customers.  Children are very adept at finding wonder and excitement and newness in all things.  No matter what door they are walking through they carry a hopefulness and openness to learn and grow.  We can harness that energy that lives within us by letting go that we know what is going to happen.  God wants us to be present for the little nuances we were not expecting so that we can be surprised and delighted by life.  My prayer for us today is that we ask for the courage to stand at our day like it is the entrance to Disneyland and be open to what wonder awaits even on the rides we have ridden before.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Restoration!

It’s good to shake things up now and then.  To get a new perspective.  To focus on something new and different.  Our mind becomes so used to seeing certain things and “knowing” the presence of the physical world that we encounter every day that it can miss the little nuances of what has changed in our field of vision.  When we seek out new sights we initiate a rejuvenation of our mind.  This new view will help put things in perspective.  It allows us to be restored to the waking state in which we are actively present in our lives and more fully present. This is why people love vacation and travel.  It opens their eyes to new sights and awakens in them an alertness.  The new experience then becomes a way of restoring the mind and ultimately the heart and the spirit.  The simplicity of this kind of restoration is that we do not have to seek outside views for it to occur. It also occurs in meditation, in quiet times of stillness.  Neuroscientists have seen that if we take even just a few minutes each day to quiet our body and our mind and just observe our thoughts, we create room for new connections in the brain.  Besides, ask any monk and they can tell you about the centuries of practice that has shown this to be true.  My prayer for us today is that we be open to God’s invitation to spend some time away from all the visions and happenings of life and be restored to our true hearts, minds and spirits by spending time with the Creator of our hearts, minds and spirits.  Make it a great one! Peace~Colleen

Be in Hallowness!

When we find ourselves connected to our true selves, our Spirit, we are open to seeing and experiencing life as more than what is right in front of us.  I have had many different kinds of spiritual experiences.  I have found that by having my designated hallowed date time with God each morning, they happen not just in those moments but whenever I am open to them.  Some are simple as feeling the presence of the Spirit in nature, hearing the joy in someone’s laugh, the warmth of affection that I see in a couple, or the playfulness of a child.  They are moments when time seems to stop and it is as if God is tapping me on the shoulder and saying, “Look here! I Am here.  Whatever you are thinking about, worrying about, just set it aside for a moment and remember the joy of life.”  Some experiences are profound like my story on the beach that I have shared about before or the hike I went on in Sedona, AZ with a shamanic healer.  It was five years ago and I still remember some of the unique experiences of the hike.  One of them I was reminded of this morning when I was reading this book about a four year old kid’s near death experience.  He spoke of a rainbow colored horse in heaven.  I seriously almost fell off the elliptical machine when I read it because I “met” this same horse when I was on my hike.  I can’t explain to you how that is, but for some reason I felt called to share it.  Despite my worry that you will now think I am totally crazy, I cannot deny that I had a vision of this horse while on the hike and even imagined myself riding it.  I think we all have experiences that we can’t explain with words or are afraid to share because what other people will think, but isn’t it cool to think that there is a rainbow colored horse in heaven?  My point is that the moment I think I know exactly how God is going to show up or who or what God is, I have lost God.  As Meister Eckhart said, “The course of heaven is outside time—and yet time comes from its movements. Nothing hinders the soul’s knowledge of God as much as time and space, for time and space are fragments, whereas God is one!  And therefore, if the soul is to know God, it must know him above time and outside of space; for God is neither this nor that, as are these manifold things.  God is one!”  If God is something beyond my understanding then maybe the very things that I cannot explain are those mysteries of God. My prayer for us today is that we let our childlike heart experience God in an unexpected way.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Unfurling!

It is a beautiful moment in our lives when we take in a breath.  We open up our mouths or our noses and let in air.  It fills our body—our lungs and then the cells go to our heart which carries it through the blood to the rest of our body. In that moment of breath we are the most open we can be.  We took a step to let in the gift of yet another moment because if we stop breathing we can be sure that the moment will be our last.  That taking in of the breath allows us to open physically and expand but it also opens us up in other ways.  We become more mentally alert, we let go of emotions, and we connect with our spirits.  How amazing it is that we get to do this so many times throughout our day!  What a gift!  In case there was ever any doubt of how God can expand our life experience, we need look no further than the breath we just took in.  It is the simplicity of the cycle of life that the breath comes and goes all day long.  God is very simple and finds the sweetest and most tender ways of opening us up to the gifts that He has for us.  My prayer for us today is that we be open to recognizing the beautiful gift of an expanding life with each breath that we take.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen
