God is intrinsic.  The essence of our true selves is built-in by our Creator.  Nothing we can do, say or experience can unearth the quintessential capacity of love always present.  When I find myself forgetting that I am connected to the intrinsic nature of love I am battling myself.  It shows up in small ways.  An irritation, lack of patience, angry for no reason, or even a subtle sense that something isn’t right seems to cloud my thinking. Sometimes it lasts long and sometimes it is just in between a few breaths.  The key for me is noticing it instead of reacting to it.  That seems to be what God does.  I am not condemned I am invited to notice the disconnection that I am feeling in my heart.  God seems to know that my thoughts and feelings of disconnection have become so uncomfortable to me.  I do need to be harped on because the staying of the uncomfortable space is discomfort at its worst.  Because of my daily meditation dates with God, I can recognize the miracle of my noticing the discomfort before I get so down the path I don’t know to even reach for God’s hand.  This is the quintessence of being in relationship with the intrinsic nature of love.  As someone who is committed to learning and growing as God would have me grow, I have learned to talk to myself differently and let go of my black and white thinking little by little.  The quintessence of relationship with God means seeing the gift in everything even the discomfort.

God is sanity! It is in the quiet spaces of our mind, when our hearts are beating through our ears that we hear the message love that resides in us at all times.  If we are constantly processing information from outside of ourselves there is little time and space for connecting with what is within us.  Our rhythm of being longs to be heard.  The sound of our nature that echoes quietly through the us in the small spaces has the guidance of the drum of our connected heart.  The sounding beat of love going with each breath in and out allows for a coherence of being that cannot be found from any outside force.  God calls us to take our stride with the resonance of our true being and create the sound of music that is us.  We flow easier and freer with this sound guiding our path.  It is the one that our heart beats to and our soul dances to.  This soundness is the rhythm of life at its fullest.  When I have my daily meditation date with God, I have the chance to start my day in the space of love’s sound because God and I are present together in the moment.

God guides.  Deep within each one of us is a knowing of a path of love. It is so closely embedded in our being that it cannot help but come through our being.  It is the flicker of hope that resides within us keeping us from giving up.  It is the slight notion of possibility giving us permission to imagine just a little longer.  It is the presence of a power that we cannot quite put our finger on but somehow when we need it most, we can feel it. There was a time in my life when I would have argued that the idea of such a presence in me was ridiculous.  Many a time I have felt nothing and certainly could not see any wonder in something inside of me.  If I didn’t already feel like something was wrong with me then I only need pay attention to a culture that is saturated in fixing, changing, and molding individuals to acceptability and a specific standard.  Religious, political, and educational institutions seem to thrive on being able to produce a product of a human being who measures up to some agreed upon level of acceptable being.  Then there are the counter cultural institutions which rebuke this notion all together and subscribe to an overly individualistic way of being.  How does one possibly decide which direction to go in?  God always calls us back to the direction of our hearts.  Therein lie the templates for full living guiding us in the direction of moment to moment experiences which measure us as our best selves.  This may or may not meet other’s standards.  This may or may not allow us to participate in the approval process of the world at large or small.  I would rather have a sense of direction in my life where I can be just as I am, good or bad, right or wrong, messy or clean.  A space where fluctuations from one state of being to another are understood.  An experience of being led always to the reminder of love that we all are even if it doesn’t look like our conception of love.  It took the breakdown of my world and everything I thought I understood about love and life to seek out a new direction.  But day by day this is the direction that leads me to the peace of my soul and I never regret my seeking of the hand of God to direct my world.  Even when all I can see are God’s fingertips.
