Therese of Lisieux was a young girl who lived in France at the end of the 19th century. She joined religious life at the age of 15 and died at the age of 24 of tibureculosis. She is known as Therese of the little flower. I remember seeing a movie about her life when I was in junior high school and being blown away by her conviction at such a young age of how she wanted to live her life for God. The beauty of her message was she lived the idea of turning the little things over to God–making her bed, washing the dishes. It seems simplistic but when I read her biography and autobiography she exuded the idea of complete trust in God and doing all things for God. I think of her often when I think of the little things that I recognize God in and turn over to God. I learned many years ago that things that I turn over to God and the things that I appreciate and acknowledge as coming from God are the areas in my life in which I experience the most peace. The things that I hold on to (even the small and simple ones) because I think God is too busy to be concerned about, are the things with which I struggle. I have come to appreciate the love of God in small things. I’ve begun to see God in action by appreciating the little moments and experiences of life. All it takes is one moment to appreciate that moment, whatever it is. What I focus on expands and when I focus on the little things in my life that I appreciate, all of a sudden I am surrounded by a life for which to be tremendously grateful. What are little things in your life that you appreciate or can appreciate? My prayer for you today is that you can see some small elements of your life to appreciate (see God in) today. Make it a great one! Peace~Colleen
