Life is a long and winding road. It has bends, dips, turns, hills up and down. There are times when it is straight and we can see exactly what is ahead of us and other times when we can’t see around the next corner. Do you ever notice that when the road is straight ahead and you can see what is in front of you that you can tune out and think about something else? When there are constant curves you have to pay attention closely to the road because you don’t know what is around the next corner or bend. There is a certain heightened feeling that comes from driving those bends and curves, hills and dips. It is this awareness that wakes us up to what it means to be alive and fully present to what is going on in our lives. But we can choose to have that during the straight paths as well if we want. It is an illusion that we know what is going to happen when we see the road straight in front of us because we never know what little bump might be there that we cannot see from afar, not to mention something that might jet out into the road. You ever notice when you are on that straight path that when something unexpected pops up we get irritated unlike when on the curvy or expected unexpected part of the road we are not? Interesting isn’t it? Maybe because we falsely rely on the idea that we are only in a physical world and we see the unexpected as simply a physical reality interruption. God invites us to be present to all of our lives even the times when it looks like a straight line. Not because we need to fear the unexpected but because there is a vast spiritual universe of experience that becomes present in the physical world if we are open to it. When we take this path hand in hand with God we can open our hearts to the unexpected or “irritating” physical representations and all of life can be this time of openawakeness and opportunity to be fully present. My prayer for us today is that we be willing to open up the car and let God in on our driven path today. Make it a great one! Peace~Colleen
