It sometimes feels like life throws a lot at us. We are faced with circumstance after circumstance that tries our patience and we feel as though we are at the mercy of the next circumstance or whatever the wind blows our direction. The only thing we are at the mercy of if we choose to be is the love of God. It is the process not the content. It may look like I am a victim in my life when there are all kinds of things coming at me at once, but I can always choose how to respond. In those moments I am always free to pause, place my hand on my heart, and be connected with the ever flowing gentleness of God’s merciful love. God’s mercy reminds me that my primary purpose is to respond to whatever I am facing with the eyes and intention of love for myself and others.
My prayer for us is the courage to connect to our hearts in the moments of merciless outside circumstances and be reconnected to the mercy of God’s love so we can respond to our lives with the love we are today.
