My overarching experience of God based on our dates comes alive in a universe of learning. It is as though God values our growing in love more than our ability to love. It is the willingness to set aside what we think we know about love and open our hearts to the nature of love by practicing love. This path of God is an invitation to try things out. See what happens when we love in this way or that. It will mean making mistakes and getting it wrong. I know I have a difficult relationship with getting things wrong or messing up. I still get stuck in thinking there must be a perfect way to do something, even love, and I should know how to do it before I try. I recognize however, that God does not see things this way. God sees no mistake or wrong in the earnest desire to practice loving the best way we know how in the moment. What could be wrong about becoming fine tuned to more of the multitudes of possibilities of love? What could be a more rewarding way of practicing this thing called life?
My prayer for us is the courage to set aside the goal of loving and be willing to practice loving as a way of opening ourselves to understanding love in a new way today.
