It seems as though we spend a fair amount of time and energy focused on what will happen when we get something done or something ends. We engage in the conversation of a future that has not yet happened but we are sure is going to be better than what it is to be with what is going on in the present. Within us is a longing to be or feel something we are not being or feeling. What if we were to embody whatever it is we think we will be or have when we get done right now? How might we show up in the now if we already had what it is we get when we are done? God is about now. God has equipped us with whatever we need to walk through our current circumstances. If we are focused on what we will be when we are done, we may not be it because we were not in it or with it to learn what was needed to get it done. (Hint: if you find yourself going through the same thing over and over again this might sound familiar.) Have you ever gotten something done and when it happened you didn’t feel the satisfaction you thought you would? God invites us to be where we are. Only then can we become who we are when we are done. If we were never there on the way, we are not done . . . yet.
My prayer for us is the courage to accept God’s invitation to be with what is now and from it become what looking forward to being when it’s done.
