The value of our lives is not about how often things go as expected or the ways in which life allows us to be the labels we have placed on ourselves. The value of our lives is about the texture of our experiences.  To what degree did we spend our lives aware of the character, the feel, the nature, the balance, and the composition of our day today?  It is easy to go along without the awareness of what comes alive around us and take it for granted. We can become numb to the texture because we rely on our eyes to feed all the information to us and we expect to see the same things.  It is kind of comical that it is the moments when things do not go as we planned or expected which then irritates us are the very time we become acutely aware of the texture of life. The moments in awareness of texture can be used to our advantage.  We can default into irritation and discontent or we can embrace the opportunity to revel in the texture we are experiencing.  I know I can go into frustration and irritation just as quickly as anyone else.  The switch that brings me into an appreciation of texture is by asking God, “How do you see this?”  “Is there something here trying to get my attention about life?” In the questions, I am drawn back to my heart where the texture of life becomes pungent and alive.
