We make many many decisions during the course of our day. So many of the ones that we make are not even conscious. Have you ever driven to work and when you got there not remembered exactly how you got there? Some part of your brain decided to turn here or drive down this road. We have done it so many times before that we don’t actually have to be present for those decisions, or do we? We certainly remember it on days when traffic is bad or there has been an accident and we have to take a different road. Then we need to be awake and make a conscious decision. Our brain even makes the decision to put one foot in front of the other. In the minutia of our life our brain’s capacity for automatic pilot is amazing and I am certainly grateful. I don’t really want to decide every little thing from putting my pants on the left or right leg first or using my right arm to hold the door open. The challenge for us is when the decisions that we have added to the list for our automatic pilot brain to decide, might be better served with a little more consciousness–how we treat others and ourselves, what we eat, our attitude when at work or in our car, how we see the people in our lives, etc. We often see difficulties as such because we are being awakened from a slumber and make a conscious choice. My prayer for us today is that we be open to noticing when we are bothered by an everyday occurrence and ask God if this is something that would enhance our lives if we were to make a conscious decision on how to handle it. Make it a great one! Peace~Colleen
