It is easy to have faith and say that we trust and believe in God when things are going well. It is easy to deal with life when things are going well. What if things are always going well? Who says that things are not going well? Is it that they are not going well or not going according to “our plan”? Given that I have a finite view of things, I find it helpful to stop and question “my plan”. If I truly trust in my heart and deep within that God is constant, that God is good no matter what and no matter what I experience God is there, then nothing can harm me. In the Christian scriptures, Paul writes to this community in Rome with great words of reassurance, “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” This means that there is nothing I can do today nor anything I did in the past that can separate me from God’s love–period, end of story. Phew! My prayer for us today is that we be open to walking in the conviction that no matter what happens today we cannot be separated from love and therefore all is well (“our plan” or not).
