Our brains are equipped with this tremendous evaluation system. It is essential to our survival to perceive if a situation is dangerous or not. Can we wait for the tiger to pass by us in the jungle or if we should make a run for it? Are the supplies we have last us through the cold winter or should we go back out and gather more? Given that we live in a world a little less fraught with danger in our present times, our survival needs are a less impending. Grocery stores are open 24 hours and the tiger is a car on the freeway or our boss. But our mind does not make the distinction because it is activated by the feelings that we have. Feelings in our body and our physical experience do not have a context–they are whole and full of energy. Where we can take a step back is in the thinking that activates the feelings. If we are focusing on what is wrong and how this isn’t working and how it is not what we planned, then the feelings of fear and uncertainty will mount. If we shift instead to what we are grateful for and how God is in charge then the energy is calmer and less fraught with danger. We dont’ have to rely solely on our judgment skills to determine if we are okay today. My prayer for us today is that we be open to focusing on the areas in our life where God is working and we can let go of our judgments of things because God has got it. Make it a great one! Peace~Colleen
