God gives us the simple yet profound gift of the breath to renew us at any moment in time. The respiratory system, the driving force behind the movement of the breath through our bodies gives us a hint in its very name. We bring Spirit in again. Taking in new breath is not just about bringing fresh oxygen to our lungs which then travels to the rest of our body restoring its systems. It is also about bringing us back into connection with Spirit. The Spirit of life, of love, of the moment. Most of the time I barely notice when I am breathing. It is only when my breath is hindered that I take great notice. Moving our bodies calls us to create a conscious connection with our breath because we notice the need for it when we are in motion. We see its helpfulness when having conversations with people and sharing ideas. All these engagements of life are continued calls to invite more Spirit into our being. God is helping us bring to mind again (reminding) the vital importance of connecting with Spirit. Once we invite Spirit in, it knows exactly where to go and what to do because it is reconnecting to intelligence within us. The true power of the presence of Spirit is not a force coming from outside of us but that which it awakens within us.
My prayer for us is the curiosity to notice when we sense a breath as more than just air through our nose and that which moves us to a more profound sense of life force today.
