Sharing my experiences and understandings of the Great I AM.

Be in Extension!

We are all connected.  We are connected primarily to God but also to each other.  The great myth of our ego is that we are all alone.  Yes, we are individuals and live our own lives.  We are called, however, to connect with each other in ways that are seen and unseen.  We all come from the same God, we are all made of the same essence – LOVE.  This is why at our core we cannot hate or disdain anyone, even our enemies, without it affecting us because it is a disdain or a hate of a part of ourselves.  Plus, whatever energy we carry about someone else, we are carrying.  When we come to the stillness of our hearts we sense the connection.  We need God because in the physical world we get lost in the ideas of separateness and disconnection.  We find solace and peace when we are reminded of our essential spirit and that we are all one.  My prayer for us today is that we be open to seeing some “other” as another facet of ourselves and find something to love or even tolerate in them and thus in us.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Conquest!

Sometimes it feels like we are living in the midst of a war.  Everything fighting for our attention.  Ideas running around in our heads, balancing other people thoughts and opinions with our own, pressures of time and energy–phew!  It’s a wonder we don’t just crawl back under the covers!  So what is it that compels us out of bed and into life each new day?  I believe it is God dwelling in us that wants us to connect with our true selves and shine that self to the world that gets us up and out.  It is the hope that what we face each day is simply a way to demonstrate the power of LOVE, the power of God.  If we believe that God is and always will be, then we can be confident that the battle has already been won.  Those of us who know God in our hearts, deep down are confident in the Great Conqueror who is as close as our next breath.  My prayer for us today is that we be willing to hold our heads up and stand in the confidence that our hearts have already been won by LOVE and whatever is vying for our attention is an opportunity to grow closer to that.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Grounding!

The buildings that are standing are only as strong as their foundation.  Everything stems from the groundwork that is laid out before the structure is built.  Even the plans are part groundwork before the construction begins.  What is the grounding in your life?  What is the grounding of your day?  Who designed the plan of who you are?  What brings you back to the essence of who you are when the structure of the life you have built around you is shaky?  It is important to know where to go when all feels lost and it seems as though life is crumbling around us.  We will be shaken sometimes to our core by this life experience and we need to have a space to get centered and grounded again so that we can know that whatever happens we are still our essence=LOVE.  My prayer for us today is that we create a time and a space where we can connect to our grounding, even if for just a moment.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Moments!

God is right here right now.  God is present in This Moment. There is no other place that God would rather be than in this very moment exactly as it is.  God even claims the name “I AM”, not I Was, or I Will Be, simply “I AM”.  Therefore, if I am to follow God’s lead then the only place for me to be is in this moment.  What prevents me from being in this moment?  My thoughts.  Whenever I am thinking, I am somewhere else.  When I am just being and breathing I AM in this moment.  When I am thinking about this moment, I go into my head. Once I am in my head I create meaning for some of the thoughts–the ones that have the most energy for me.  Then I am off and running with the meaning.  Before I know it there is a whole life going on in my head and I am not present in the current moment.  The meaning I attach to something from the past or fearing about the future and moment after moment disappears without me even realizing it.  No wonder it seems like time is passing me by.  The reality is that I am passing it by but spending it in my head.  What does it take to be fully present in this very moment?  It takes the power of God.  It takes the courage to be in trust that whatever is happening right now is exactly where I am supposed to be.  There is nothing good or bad, right or wrong.  In fact, if God is the Great Judge, I am not needed to evaluate the moment at all.  God judges so that I can simply be.  Each moment is a call to grow in love.  To grow more fully into our very essence = LOVE.  When I find myself drifting out of the present moment and into my thoughts about it, I can pause, take a deep breath, connect with Spirit and ask God for the courage to be in this very moment. This is the learning journey of life–how to be.  I get to notice (nope, not even judge, just notice) those times when I drift away from the present and bring even that to my relationship with God and ask, what can I learn from this?  How can I grow in love by looking at these thoughts that drift me away from my moments?  Show me what to do with this and remove them from me so I can BE.  My prayer for us today is that we be open to noticing (not judging) how many moments we are BEing in over the course of this God-given day.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Asking!

God knows our hearts, God knows the longings of our hearts.  God knows our thoughts before we think them and God sees our the intentions of our hearts when we think our thoughts.  So why do we need to say anything to God?  Good question.  I think it is about engaging in the relationship.  It is about taking a closer look at the things that roam inside our head and getting them out and looking at them.  Besides, we think lots of thoughts every day.  Only the ones with more energy are the ones we pay close attention to.  If we speak our thoughts we bring them into creation–we put more energy on them then when they were just rolling around in our heads.  The speaking causes the thoughts to carry a stronger vibration simply by the fact that we put breath and sound with them to get from inside our heads to out through our lips.  This is why there is such power in prayer in communities.  When you have a whole group of people speaking the glory of God together in unison it lifts the energy of the room.  Spiritual services in all faiths are very powerful and enlightening because the energy of all those vibrations shifts the whole room’s energy.  It is at those times that even those who are present who may not speak the words are touched by the energy shift.  It is not about God granting all our wishes, it is about asking God to hear us and being willing to let the idea take a creative form through our speaking.  God is the Creator of all and wants for us to experience the joy of creation as well.  It is in the action that we experience things.  We have limited minds so sometimes what we think is best is not what will ultimately create more love in our lives–this is why we present the asking to God.  Each day we have the chance to take the breaths we are given and share them through our speaking.  Why not share them first with the Creator of All and see what we can co-create to enhance love?  My prayer for us today is that we be willing to try our hand at creation and speak our asking to God and see what happens.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Conversation!

God has created us with complete and total love because that is who God is.  No matter what we do or don’t do does not change God.  So what does God want from us?  I think on a basic level God would like to be involved in our lives, in all of our lives because he so eloquently designed all of who we are and wants to participate and continually create with us.  Simply put, God wants to be in conversation with us.  God desires to commune with us on whatever level we would invite him in to.  So whatever the conversation is be where you are today and be open to sharing it with God.  If it is joy, frustration, anger, sadness, satisfaction, gratitude, humility, discontent–whatever it is, share it with God.  My prayer for us today is that we be open to believing that just as we can trust that no matter what God is, God is open to whatever or whomever we are today.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Interest!

We gravitate towards the things we are interested in.  Our interests capture our attention and invite us in to explore. When we are interested in something we are present to it.  We are not thinking about wherever else we want to be or need to be.  So what do we do with the areas of our lives we are not interested in?  Therein lies the challenge.  Is there an area of our lives, big or small that God is not interested in?  The more accurate question might be is than area of our lives that we do not want God to take an interest in?  Maybe we think we got this one handled.  Maybe we think that God is not interested because God has better things to do.  Maybe it is us who is not interested in being fully present to that part of our lives.  Perhaps we just prefer to approach it on automatic pilot–doing what we always do, being how we always are.  We can recognize those areas because they are the areas of our lives that we are irritated by when things don’t go as usual.  It is an indication when we are rubbed by a disturbance in a situation because it wakes us up to be present to what is going on.  Yesterday at work, I had such an occasion, I was doing a normal thing I do at work and it was not working. I became disturbed because it was not going as planned and I had to go back and do it again.  I had a room full of people waiting on me to figure out what was going on–no pressure or anything! So I simply took a deep breath, realized I needed God with me in that moment, and asked for their patience.  I realized that in that moment I could be frustration or I could be trusting that all was happening exactly as it should and I could model that.  Part of me wanted to curse the situation up and down (okay I did in my head briefly) but then realized it was not making it go any smoother.  With the breath I took I realized I needed God’s help to be interested in where I was in the present moment so I could let go of being disturbed by the wake up call.  Then somehow, just as it didn’t work, the computer started to work again as though nothing had been wrong.  It’s amazing what a restart can do in my life and in technology. My prayer for us today is that we be open to asking for help to be interested in the very moment we would prefer to be on automatic pilot so that we can learn something new.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in God-truth!

Throughout the ages, human beings have been on a search for truth and meaning.  We have been seeking the ultimate understanding of what is and why it is the way it is.  We each have that own search within us.  We look to writers and philosophers, historians, spiritual leaders, political and social leaders, our parents and teachers, society–all these places outside of us to find this truth.  What if the truth of it all lies within us?  What if all the search “out there” is designed to lead us to determine what resonates within us?  To the God within us?  We are a social and relational people so it is only natural that we would look to others to help find our way.  But what if looking outside ourselves keeps calling us to look within?  Looking outward is not a problem, it is an invitation.  What if the messages we are getting are asking us to look within and determine what resonates with our own hearts and spirits? When all is said and done, we are alone with God–no person, thing or idea gets to go with us.  We stand naked and whole in the presence of our Creator. I can no more expect someone else to live my life than to think that living by someone else’s ideas will allow me to live my life.  My prayer for us today is that we be willing to take one idea that comes across our minds and stop and ask, is this true for me in God in this moment?  Make it a great one! Peace~Colleen

Be in Non-Judgement!

Our brains are equipped with this tremendous evaluation system.  It is essential to our survival to perceive if a situation is dangerous or not.  Can we wait for the tiger to pass by us in the jungle or if we should make a run for it?  Are the supplies we have last us through the cold winter or should we go back out and gather more?  Given that we live in a world a little less fraught with danger in our present times, our survival needs are a less impending.  Grocery stores are open 24 hours and the tiger is a car on the freeway or our boss.  But our mind does not make the distinction because it is activated by the feelings that we have.  Feelings in our body and our physical experience do not have a context–they are whole and full of energy.  Where we can take a step back is in the thinking that activates the feelings.  If we are focusing on what is wrong and how this isn’t working and how it is not what we planned, then the feelings of fear and uncertainty will mount.  If we shift instead to what we are grateful for and how God is in charge then the energy is calmer and less fraught with danger.  We dont’ have to rely solely on our judgment skills to determine if we are okay today.  My prayer for us today is that we be open to focusing on the areas in our life where God is working and we can let go of our judgments of things because God has got it.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Conviction!

It is easy to have faith and say that we trust and believe in God when things are going well.  It is easy to deal with life when things are going well.  What if things are always going well?  Who says that things are not going well?  Is it that they are not going well or not going according to “our plan”?  Given that I have a finite view of things, I find it helpful to stop and question “my plan”.  If I truly trust in my heart and deep within that God is constant, that God is good no matter what and no matter what I experience God is there, then nothing can harm me.  In the Christian scriptures, Paul writes to this community in Rome with great words of reassurance, “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”   This means that there is nothing I can do today nor anything I did in the past that can separate me from God’s love–period, end of story.  Phew!  My prayer for us today is that we be open to walking in the conviction that no matter what happens today we cannot be separated from love and therefore all is well (“our plan” or not).  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Are you willing to believe God’s love is constant even if life isn’t going according to your plan?  Feel free to share how that would shape your day if you did believe that God is love no matter what happens.
