Sharing my experiences and understandings of the Great I AM.

Be in God-presence!

In Christian circles there is the concept for a couple when they get married of the idea that marriage is actually the joining of three–the two people and God.  In the Christian scriptures it says that wherever two or more are gathered, God is in their midst.  When we truly connect with other human beings we can do so on many levels–emotionally, physically, mentally, and spiritually.  Those we are closest to are those with whom we share all those connections.  What would our relationships be like if we stopped to acknowledge God’s presence in all of them?  If we are showing up as fully ourselves, allowing God to shine the light of love through us then it is happening without us even acknowledging it.  The phrase used in the Eastern world , “Namaste” conveys this very idea.  Loosely translated it means, “The God in me recognizes and honors the God in you.”  How different might we approach the next person we come across if we realized we were seeing not just their physical form but God?  The Hebrew scriptures creation story says that we are made in the image and likeness of God.  It doesn’t specify certain people or races, so we are all made in the image and likeness of God.  My heart sings at this idea because I become present to the variety, breath, and depth of who God is. It allows me to be open to the idea that God will show up in ways that I had not imagined and there is endless variation.  It calls me to wake up and stop pretending that God is nowhere to be found.  All I have to do is look at the person next to me.  My prayer for us today is that we be open to seeing the presence of God in the very person we can’t imagine God being present in and be open to the light of a shifting perspective.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Hushedness!

In the we small hours of the morning before the world is awake and rushing onto the next thing there is a stillness in the air.  There is an anticipation of what is to come in a new day and it is in that quiet hush that God speaks to our hearts.  I believe that God is always speaking to us there but by the time our day is in full swing it is a little harder to hear.  Many great mystics speak of times of silence in nature and quiet with God.  Maybe that is why the birds are singing even before the sun comes up because God is speaking through them.  God always has one simple message–LOVE.  It is amazing how the stillness speaks of love.  Like the ocean wave that comes calmly and kisses the sand on the shore.  How the sun quietly rises above the horizon in the morning and says goodbye in the evening.  Does a flower make noise when it blooms into its full beauty or is that happening in hushed song of love as well?  I find that if I am open to calming my mind and my body just a little that God’s voice becomes clearer.  Sometimes it takes a while for my mind to stop running but after practicing this for a while, I have moments in the day where I can call upon that quietness with a simple deep breath.  Then I am back in the hush of God’s kiss.  My prayer for us today is that we be open to taking in a deep breath and imagining the hush come through our body and allow God to be with us completely in that moment–who knows you might just get kissed!  Make it a great one! Peace~Colleen

Be in Navigation!

There are many new experiences that await us this day.  It is exciting when we place ourselves in the presence of what is possible in this new day with each breath.  There may be some things that we are concerned or uncertain about.  There may be some things we are not looking forward to or think will go as they normally do, but we don’t know.   I find it helpful at the beginning of my day in my date with God to say, “Here are my plans for the day, show me how you want me to be in this day.”  It is not easy to be willing to let go of what I think I “know” should or want to happen but if I am in the moment and being then I can handle whatever curve balls are sent my way.  I need the Great Navigator to direct my course of thought and action.  When I am willing to set aside what I think I know and be guided through this day, there is a little less worry, a little less stress and a little more excitement.  My prayer for us today is that we be open to being in a fresh way for the “typical” experiences of our day.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Rushlessness!

Life is full of opportunities and activities and in a society that treasures ourselves as human doings we are always going and moving.  It is wonderful to be able to participate but sometimes we are in such a hurry to get from one thing to the next, we don’t take the time to be present where we are in the moment.  We suffer from overwhelm and begin to begrudge all the things we have to do and nothing holds joy for us.  When we pause and breathe and get present in the moment, when we are willing to not rush from one thing to the next but treat each moment for the treasure that it is, we can actually enjoy our life.  There is great joy in accomplishment but if we do not know how to be present in the moments that bring about that accomplishment, how can we enjoy the moment of that accomplishment?  My prayer for us today is that we be willing to not rush through one thing we always rush through and ask God to show us the gem of that moment that we choose to be present to. Then maybe we can live the great words of Ferris Bueller who reminds us, “Life moves pretty fast, if you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you’ll could miss it.” Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Broadcasting!

When you look at how television and how it works it is quite amazing.  There is this box or piece of metal and through it comes these pictures and stories and you can switch from one to another.  You can be informed and or entertained, depending on how you feel about the message being broadcast.  We are much the same way.  We broadcast different stories and ideas through our actions and our words.  We showcase a way of being by what we spend our time focusing on. Have you ever come across someone and thought, “wow, I don’t know what they are plugged into, but I want to be on that channel?”  We are a vessel and we broadcast a message by our very way of being.  We can choose what it is that we broadcast if we are aware of it and make a choice.  Have you ever read two completely different reviews for a tv show or a movie?  The people that we encounter every day will have their own interpretation of how we are being.  Some will like it, some will not.  It is not up to us to change our broadcasting based on what we think they will like, it is up to us to like what we are broadcasting and do so consciously.  The feedback can be helpful because sometimes we cannot see what message we are conveying, but it does not mean we are to change to satisfy others.  The only one I am truly interested in satisfying is God.  That is because I know that God views me with the eyes of love.  So the feedback I get from God will come from love.  It does not mean I will always like the message or at least my ego may not.  When I am willing to let go of my idea of what I think I am broadcasting and am open to the director’s viewpoint, I come closer to love and am able to convey a deeper message to the world around me.  My prayer for us today is that we be open to looking at what we broadcast to the world by our way of being.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Perpetuity!

God is in this moment!  God created this moment!  We and God co-created this moment!  But this moment is not what it appears to be to our human mind.  We look at a situation or experience and evaluate it based on the content.  Life is about the process.  It matters little who is involved or what the face of things are, it is about what is going on underneath.  What are we telling ourselves about ourselves, others, and God based on this situation?  Who are we being in the face of this situation?  Things are happening just as they “should” simply because they are what is happening–we cannot fight reality.  The real question is who are we being in the face of what is happening?  We can either choose to accept it or make changes to how we see it.  If we stay wedded to how we are seeing a situation and it causes us suffering then we have no one else to blame.  A shift in perspective can open up a whole new world and experience of the very same thing that happened yesterday, if we are willing.  God is God no matter what.  God is constant!  God does not waver in the face of difficulty.  God’s perspective does not move away from love because we stop being loving.  God does not avoid us because we are not behaving as God would like.  God is the Great I AM.  God’s being does not alter based on circumstances.  Therefore God is the model by which we can choose to be in our own lives.  My prayer for us today is that we be open to the perpetual LOVE that is present (God that is present) in whatever experience we are having.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Energy!

Life is full of energy!  Everything and everyone has energy and we are surrounded by it.  It also resides within us.  It is the use of those energy that either creates or destroys our experience.  The energy itself is neither created nor destroyed according to Einstein.  So it is a matter of us paying attention to how we use it and for what purpose.  The very source of all energy is the Great Creator.  Therefore the more time we spend in God’s presence the more tapped in to the eternal life force we will be.  We all have the same amount of time in a day — 24 hours.  Do we all have the same amount of energy in those 24 hours?  What events, experiences, actions, thoughts, feelings give us more energy? Which deplete our energy?  Are there ways in which we use our energy to play God and thus find ourselves exhausted?  My prayer for us today is that we be open to paying attention to how we use our energy and thus allow God to be God and us to be us.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

What kinds of God-things do you do that deplete your human energy?  Feel free to share by clicking on the number to the right of the title above.

Be in Simpleness!

When we are open, not rushed or stressed, we are able to be in the present moment.  The beauty of the present moment is that we are aware of all that is going on around us and within us.  We can appreciate the simple things that we are seeing because we are free of making it mean anything.  Things just are.  This is such a freeing space to be in our minds.  It is as though they can breathe.  The moment we start getting into the meaning, judgment, evaluation we are in our heads and no longer in the present.  God wants us to delight in the very essence of being because that is what we were created for.  God wants us to have as many present moments as we can.  God knows that it takes discipline to get us to stay present.  If you look closely at scripture and sacred readings from all faiths and practices, you will notice one common theme–encouragement.  God is aware of the sometimes struggle to be in the experience of life for which we are meant.  If you look closely at the religious practices of most faiths they create a discipline of turning towards God.  Yes they look different and have different words, but ultimately, they all have the same goal in mind–to bring us closer to God, to provide relief from our mind that thinks it is god.  But even if we do not read sacred scripture or have a set spiritual practice, we can look to nature to be reminded of the simplicity of love of which we are designed.  When I have my date time with God, I don’t do it because I want to all the time (there are mornings I would rather sleep some more) or because I am virtuous in any way.  My date time with God each day is done because there is a place deep within me that is touched that the very being who gave me breath this morning calls to my heart and wants to be present with me.  I often get distracted or sometimes cannot focus and feel like I didn’t connect very well to God during our designated time together.  But day after day I show up and say “here I am Lord, do with me what you will.”  I have learned that God works with those who show up, so I show up.  My prayer for us today is that we be open to experiencing a moment of simple love in one of our breaths (thankfully we will have many to choose from today–just think of how many breaths you took while reading this).  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Cleanliness!

I am not sure where the expression, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness” comes from.  It was not an expression in the household I grew up in but I remember hearing it said and often mocked because it does sound like Mr. Clean is the God we are speaking of (LOL!) The concept itself is not far-fetched but perhaps mis-interpreted.  The cleanliness to be in would be cleanliness of heart.  In order to love fully an open heart is ideal.  In the book of Psalms, King David asked “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”  He wanted to draw closer to God and knew that came from within him.  I have shared before that there was a time in my life when my heart was filled with much darkness and the night that God called me out to the beach and wrapped his arms around me from behind.  I felt as though he was opening my chest and it hurt so bad. But He told me that we needed to open it up and let the darkness out so we could create more room for love.  I knew that my heart was cold and hardened by life experiences and what I made them mean.  I knew that there was much forgiveness of myself and others that would need to occur for my heart to be restored to its suppleness.  I had no idea how that would happen or what would need to occur but that night I was assured that God would stand with me and behind me, I just needed to be willing to walk through the process no matter how painful it might be.  What I can tell you is that many years later and lots of forgiveness and letting go, my heart has opened and softened.  Pain has a way of making one willing.  Feeling blocked off from love has a way of making one willing. This is how I know that we are meant for love and that we are love because when we are not aligned with who we truly are we sense the discord.  We try to hide it or cover it up, but ultimately the LOVE of our Creator reaches out from within us and calls our attention to it.  The cleanliness is about letting go of old ideas, one at a time, several at a time–recognizing that my way of thinking was no longer serving me or anyone else because it blocked me off from love.  My prayer for us today is that we be open to cleaning out one idea from our minds that is keeping love at bay from ourselves and others.  Make it a great one!  Peace~Colleen

Be in Readiness!

I lean a lot on the expression, “If God brings you to it, then God will bring you through it.”  If I truly believe that there are no mistakes in life, only invitations to grow, then I must trust that the Infinite God that I know in the deep recesses of my heart is powerful enough to be with me through whatever it is that I am facing.  My pain comes when I rely solely on my own resources to get me through.  I recognize it through my description of what is happening–I am overwhelmed, it’s not fair that I have to go through this, I am not enough, and so on.  The martyr and the victim role are well worm grooves in my brain. But God did not design me for victimhood.  God designed me for victory.  I just have to change a couple of letters at the end of the word and I am rightly restored to my purpose.  It is not up to me to get me through something, it is up to me to be ready to embrace and welcome in the power of God.  My best moments of triumph have been when I let go and let God.  I simply showed up ready to be and do as He would have me be and do.  It is simple, but not easy, but I can be willing to do it today.  My prayer for us today is that we pay attention to the conversation in our head about how we are limited and instead of seeing it as a personal fault, recognize it as an opportunity to be ready for God to demonstrate his power in our lives and the lives of others.  Make it a great one! Peace~Colleen
